In my last post I'd mentioned how muggy it gets here. Well, yesterday wasn't muggy, but it was just as bad. The temperature read about 90 degrees. Crazy.
When Theo asked what I wanted to do that day, thought of the heat about how good it would feel to sit on some nice, cool grass. So that's what I told him; that I wanted to go somewhere where there was grass. The only problem is that Paris isn't exactly teeming with beautiful, lush parks like Seattle. There are the Luxemborg Gardens, but those were a bit away. So instead, we decided on La Defense, where there was supposedly a small area of grass. I needed shampoo and conditioner anyways, so I agreed. Theo and I walked to La Defense and sought out the grass, but what I saw was a bit sad. Paris is great in many ways, but I'm not gonna lie when I say that they are a little lacking in the grass department. Because their idea of grass is something that looks and feels like astro turf. I could barely believe it was real.
Anyways, we sat there for a bit and I decided to take a few pictures from where I sat. Here are a few:
Once we got a too hot, we went inside to the Cnit, where after looking at various and high-end shampoos, I ended up just choosing Garnier. After I'd bought those, we didn't want to head back into the heat quite yet, so we window shopped a bit and eventually got a ice cream each, which was delicious. It wasn't until we'd finished those that we decided to brave the heat once again and head back home. A slight breeze had picked up, which was nice, but when we were just a few blocks away from home, I came across something on the sidewalk in front of me, and then I realized it was a dead cat! It didn't look that old, and the worst part was, as we'd taken the same street leaving, I'm pretty sure it hadn't been there a couple hours before..:(((
After a nap, (I know, I know, not the best idea for beating jet lag..) we were informed by Theo's parents that Marie and Agathe, his sisters, would be coming over for dinner. Marie just got engaged, so I was excited to congratulate her and her now fiance, who I'd gotten to meet briefly back in December as well. And my cheesecake! I was now infinitely more happy that I'd decided to make it the night before as it meant that they would now all get to try it. :)
Theo's parents arrived with the groceries and as they prepared dinner, the rest of us mingled in the kitchen with them, enjoying delicious sweet port and Cointreau, and listening to ABBA.
Dinner was finally ready, and we all set down to eat at the full table, as there were 8 of us in total. The food was great, the main dish being slices of cooked duck and potatoes, mmm! And when it finally came time for dessert, I was congratulated all around. It felt great, especially since it'd been my first time making cheesecake. (I did take a picture, but it's on Theo'd camera, so I'll post it later.)
After eating, there was plenty of conversation at the table, mostly in French. I caught bits and pieces, but occasionally Marie and Agathe would fill me in, which was nice. Once we all got up from the table, one by one we dispersed, each heading to bed.
It's now morning, and I'm excited to say that I may be going to see a potential apartment today! Can't wait, let you all know how it goes. :)
Much love!
Rachael
